WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House Oversight Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties held a hearing on the benefits of cannabis decriminalization at the federal level and allowing cannabis companies to access traditional banking services.
US Cannabis Council (USCC) CEO, Khadijah Tribble, released the following statement:
“USCC commends the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties for coordinating across the aisle to hold this hearing with a diverse group of experts from the cannabis industry. Today’s hearing underscores the broad bipartisan support for cannabis reform and how Congress can create equitable pathways to a regulated industry.
“It is long overdue for the federal government to end the federal prohibition of cannabis, and resolve the growing conflict between state and federal law. While descheduling and comprehensive reform remain our top priority, Congress should pass the SAFE Banking Act before the end of the current term. As additional state cannabis markets come online and businesses continue to live in fear of armed robberies, we cannot risk further delay.”
USCC submitted written testimony to the official record. Please click here to read the submission.
