WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, President Biden announced the release of WNBA All-Star Brittney Griner, who for ten months languished as a political prisoner in Russia due to accusations of cannabis possession.
U.S. Cannabis Council CEO, Khadijah Tribble, released the following statement:
“We applaud President Biden, the administration, and advocates for getting Brittney Griner back home safely. Her unjust detention was an outrage, and we are glad to see her freed."
"President Biden was correct when he said that no one should be jailed for using cannabis. USCC calls on the Senate to follow the will of the American people and enact cannabis reform measures that would clear barriers to entry for Black and Brown cannabis entrepreneurs and bring some relief to all the other Americans who, like Griner, were unjustly harmed by cannabis prohibition."
"Let's celebrate today's announcement with a call to action to end the ongoing punishment for cannabis possession in our own country.
Welcome home Brittney!"
